Residents in several area towns are being offered incentives to purchase compact fluorescent lights through a program set up to help consumers save on their electric bills.

Coupons offering discounts on the CFLs are being mailed to residents in the villages of Elmore, Pemberville, Oak Harbor, Genoa, Woodville, Bradner, Haskins, and the City of Bowling Green.

Chinese developers broke ground on the Marina District Saturday morning with investors Wu King Hung and Yuan Xiaohong of the firm Dashing Pacific Group in attendance.

East Toledo District 3 councilman Mike Craig expected the sale to the developers of 69 acres of Marina District property for $3.8 million to have closed late last week before the groundbreaking. The sales contract is to include options for the Chinese to purchase more property in the 127-acre Marina District.

Former City of Toledo Deputy Mayor Dean Monske says the new Chinese developers of the Marina District are sponsoring local Fourth of July fireworks displays.

Sounds logical — history tell us the Chinese invented fireworks. In addition, the Chinese firm Dashing Pacific Group already owns The Docks restaurant complex.

Recker pulled petitions for one of three seats on Whitehouse council and has filed them with the board of elections.

Northwood’s former fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) medical director had concerns for years about whether the Northwood Fire Department met the “standard of care.”

Dr. David Miramontes, who was Northwood’s EMS medical director for nearly 10 years before taking a job as the full-time EMS director in Washington, D.C., last month, told The Press he spoke to former Fire Chief Tim Romstadt in the past about problems he saw in the fire department.
