For the residents of the Village of Genoa who haven’t had the push to clean up their yards, the village has a new incentive.

Village council has modified the municipal code section regarding nuisance property maintenance issues. Council members used the emergency provision for the legislation so that enforcement takes effect immediately rather than 30 days, Village Administrator Kevin Gladden said.

Engineers from the Ohio Department of Transportation will speak to the public about the three-year rehabilitation project scheduled for the Anthony Wayne Bridge (High Level Bridge) Thursday, April 25.

The talk, sponsored by the East Toledo Club, will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the East Toledo Senior Activities Center, 1001 White St. A question and answer period will follow.

Few major purchases of equipment or vehicles are planned in the 2013 budget for Lake Township but a grant the township received to purchase radios for the fire department may allow for the early retirement of debt incurred to buy a truck for the department.

The township’s appropriations for the year include a general fund budget of $1.13 million. Total appropriations, which were approved by the township trustees at their last meeting, are $4.79 million.

The proposed expansion of the Collins Park Water Treatment Plant in East Toledo drew about 45 residents living near the plant to the Birmingham Branch public library on Tuesday to voice their concerns about the project, which calls for the city’s purchase of several homes in the area.

Some wanted to know if the expansion would affect the nearby Collins Park, and whether their homes would be taken by eminent domain if they did not want to sell them to the city.

Brandon Brywczynski has been a bird watcher since he was 10-years-old. Now he's a young, married adult with one child and another on the way who substitute teaches at Four County Vocational School.
