The appeals court agreed with a judgment by the Sandusky County District Court against Elena Miniet for $13,837

Miniet had been a resident of the Wood Lane Health Care facility since 2008, In August 2012, she lost her Medicaid benefits and didn’t pay the facility from October 2012 through November 2013, when she was discharged and moved to another facility, according to court records.

Eastwood school officials plan to have a new high school principal hired by the time the school board meets on June 29.

The board last week accepted the resignation of Chris Fahim, who’s accepted a position in Sylvania.

Fahim has been assistant principal/ athletic director and principal at the Eastwood High School for six years.

Superintendent Brent Welker, in his community newsletter, praised Fahim for his work ethic and sense of humor that endeared him to students and staff alike.

“He has brought with him a quick wit and an amazing sense of humor that has made working with him truly enjoyable,” Welker said. “His dedication to our students rises well above and beyond any reasonable expectation. It was not uncommon for him to work well past his contracted days and hours in an effort to make sure everything was in place.”

A new fire truck is being put into service by the Harris-Elmore Fire Department.

Harris Township trustees purchased the Spartan truck for $275,000 through a state program.

Carol Baker, a trustee, said a bequest from the estate of Frederick R. Damschroder, an estate tax settlement and revenues from an existing levy were used to make the purchase without asking voters for more taxes. She said the township negotiated the price down from $296,000.

Ohio Plaza Shopping Center LLC, owner of the Woodville Mall, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the Ohio Northern Bankruptcy Court on May 11.

Late last year, Northwood filed a lawsuit against the Woodville Mall for foreclosure judgment on a lien, previously part of a ruling by the Wood County Common Pleas court to force the owners to complete demolition of the mall on time.

Most of the mall, located at 3725 Williston Road, was razed last year, but buildings that were leased by The Andersons and Elder-Beerman are still standing likely due to asbestos contamination, Northwood City Administrator Bob Anderson said last week.

The Wood County Common Pleas court in 2013 ruled that all unused structures on the premises, debris, building materials and trash, were to be removed by May 2, 2014, and that asphalt and cement slabs were to be removed by July 31, 2014.

Buoyed by a reimbursement of $280,000 from the North Point Educational Service Center, the short-term financial outlook of the Woodmore Local School District has become a little rosier.

The reimbursement stems from an overpayment by the district in 2013 to North Point for contracted services. Jaime Pearson, district treasurer, discovered the discrepancy recently and brought it to the attention of North Point, which agreed with her finding.

Pearson presented revised revenue and expenditure figures to the finance committee of the district’s school board last week –including the reimbursement - and will present a more detailed picture of the district’s financial situation to the full board at its May 19 regular meeting.
