Back in the summer of `69, young Dave Michalak fell for his first love.
He could hardly wait for Friday night to come so he could meet up with Teri DeShetler at the Teen Town dances, held every week in the Navarre Park shelter house.
From the first time the shy young man summoned the courage to ask the curly-haired girl to dance, he was smitten. Often he stayed until the very last minute, running the whole way home so that he wouldn’t get in trouble for being late.
During its August 26 meeting, council voted to approve the loan which will allow the main road running through the $20 million planned project to begin.
The long talked about project is expected to have a public park running along the river, along with a mixed development of both commercial and residential buildings.
The August 23 river cruise for the developmentally-disabled was rekindled in 2007 by Marie Cousino, entertainment director for the Harbor View Yacht Club Auxiliary.
“This use to be an annual event,” said Cousino. “We use to take MRDD residents on a trip from Wyandot, Michigan. Last year we decided to start it up again. We kept it local with the hopes of making it grow and getting more residents and more boaters involved.”
Public political forums are not new for the VFW Post 2510 on Second Street in East Toledo. The post has always been known for providing opportunities to get information out about candidates and issues.
On Saturday, September 6, the VFW is hosting representatives from the local Barrack Obama presidential campaign staff for a presentation starting at 3 p.m. The VFW is offering a similar program for the local John McCain campaign committee, with a date to be set later.
The Federal Aviation Administration is awarding a grant of $38,760 to the Port Authority for design planning of the renovations to runway 14/32 at Metcalf and the Ohio Department of Transportation is awarding another $600,032 for construction costs for half of the main runway at the airfield.
