New Heights Fellowship Church at 613 Main Street in East Toledo is getting involved in much more than teaching religion.

Baptist Pastor Dan Stevenson, a 1988 Northwood High School graduate, says the church is looking for “partners to help in revitalizing the community and equipping people with the tools necessary to live a fruitful and abundant life here in our community.”

The church is tied into a ministry which provides grocery and clothing to those in need. Stevenson said since the church was planted specifically on Main Street to help clean up and improve the community there, it is open to homeless individuals and others who may be despondent.

The number of water samples with excessive bacteria levels at Ohio beaches dropped in 2007 from the year before but were still high enough to rank Ohio second among all states, according to a report by the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Citing data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the report, Testing the Waters, A Guide to Water Quality at Vacation Beaches, indicates the number of closing and advisory days at ocean, bay, and Great Lakes beaches surpassed 20,000 for the third consecutive year.

The Interior Department is always looking for homes for wild horses and burros rounded up on ranges in the western United States.

The department has scheduled adoption events at many locations across the country each year as part of its Wild Horse and Burro Adoption program, which started in 1973, according to Martha M. Malik, public affairs specialist with the Milwaukee field office of the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management.

Even though it’s not completed, Rocky Ridge Fire Chief Raymond Brown already knows one item that will be prominently displayed in the village’s new fire station/municipal building.

So grateful is Chief Brown for the donation of time and sweat, money, and materials by a small army of volunteers, businesses, and organizations he has said he is going to have a special plaque made to recognize those who are making the new building a reality.

Oregon will install, operate and monitor temporary flow meters at five locations in the sanitary sewer system to reduce or eliminate excessive storm water from getting into the wastewater collection system.

Flow monitoring, video detection, and smoke testing will help identify inflow and infiltration (I&I) sources.

Some residents, in neighborhoods off Seaman Road, complained about flooding in their homes following heavy rainfall on July 3. They told council at a meeting last month that they were overwhelmed with cleaning bills and threats of cancelled homeowners insurance policies.
