On November 4, voters will consider renewal of a 2-mill permanent improvement levy for the Oregon City Schools District.

Voters first passed the levy in 1968, and have continued to support it since.

A permanent improvement levy can only fund capital improvement projects such as parking lots, major repairs to facilities and major equipment purchases rather than extensive renovation projects and new construction. It is not used for operational expenses or salaries.

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH - All graduating Toledo Public Schools’ students in financial need will be afforded the opportunity to pursue a free college education at Owens Community College as the academic institution’s Foundation announces the expansion of its Success Program partnership to include all high schools within the Toledo Public Schools district.

The 2009 graduating classes of Waite and other TPS high schools, Toledo Early College High School and Toledo Technology Academy, among others will serve as recipients of the program, which is designed to assist students who receive only partial state and federal financial aid to attend college.

Hunters are preparing for Ohio's fall wild turkey season, which runs Oct. 11 through Nov. 30, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife

"Brood production was enhanced in parts of southern Ohio by this summer's emergence of 17-year cicadas," said Mike Reynolds, the division's wild turkey biologist. "Hunters should be able to locate flocks of turkeys feeding on abundant white oak acorns and beech nuts in mature forests." Reynolds estimates Ohio's statewide wild turkey flock now numbers more than 200,000 birds.

A female Oregon police sergeant has filed a lawsuit in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas against the City of Oregon, the Oregon police department, Mayor Marge Brown, and Police Chief Richard Stager for alleged sex discrimination and retaliation for her deposition in a lawsuit filed by a female officer against the city for sex discrimination in 2004.

Kelly Thibert, who has been an Oregon police officer since March, 1993, alleges that Stager and Brown “acted with reckless disregard” for her rights, according to the lawsuit.

The Lake Township trustees Tuesday approved a resolution asking the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and attorney general to investigate operating permit violations at the landfill operated by Envirosafe Services of Ohio in Oregon.

The resolution also asks the state to provide direct oversight in the monitoring of underground raw water lines to Toledo that run through the landfill property.
