Heather Sayler, Northwood’s planning, zoning and economic development coordinator, has resigned, effective Sept. 5, to take a position as senior planner for the City of Bowling Green.

Sayler had hoped to become Northwood’s new economic development director, but council is divided on whether to create the position. It was on council’s agenda earlier this month, but later tabled.

The city hired Sayler, who has a Masters degree in planning, in 2003. She had wanted to focus more on planning and economic development instead of zoning in Northwood, said Administrator Pat Bacon.

While he was at the Wood County Fair, the more common questions the Eastwood school superintendent heard centered on how the district will fare financially down the road if a new school building is constructed and what will happen to bus routes.

The Eastwood district qualifies for about $13.5 million in funding through the Ohio School Facilities Commission to help pay for part of the construction costs of a new elementary building if Eastwood voters approve a 5.8-mill, 28-year bond issue on the November ballot.

After receiving a donation of $5,000 from Kroger and Milk-Bone, the Lake Township Police Department may start the process for forming its second K-9 unit early next year, Police Chief Mark Hummer said last week.

The companies donated the money Tuesday to Chief Hummer and other officers at the Kroger Store on Carronade Drive in Perrysburg and the chief presented the check to the Lake Township trustees during their meeting later that evening.

About a dozen residents stopped by the Genoa Town Hall Aug. 17 and took up Mayor Mark Williams on his offer to come in, sit down, and have a chat with the mayor.

“I’ve had a chance to meet some new people and the residents had a chance to meet me. I really enjoyed it,” Mayor Williams said.

Some of the residents stopped by during the afternoon for more than a meet and greet. Some came to discuss general concerns about the village with their mayor.

Toledo Harbor Lighthouse fans take heed. The lighthouse is in fourth place in a competition to win new windows and doors. It needs your help in voting online to bump it up to first place by the contest’s Sept. 7 deadline.

The Toledo Harbor Lighthouse is one of 12 finalists competing for windows and doors in the annual JELD-WEN window/door competition.

Currently, the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse is in fourth place, losing out to Grand Traverse Lighthouse in Traverse City, Mich.; Bodie Island Light Station in North Carolina; and New Canal Lighthouse in Louisiana.
