Arraignment hearings are scheduled for Oct. 19 for two suspects in the robbery last week of the Millbury branch of Genoa Bank on State Route 51.

Steven Perales, 45, of Georgetown Drive, Oregon, and Heather Beasley, 24, who gave no address to authorities, have been charged in Ottawa County Municipal Court with aggravated robbery.

Financing program criticized by group
A new report outlines problems with a trend among cities using what is called tax-increment financing, contending the practice has become a subsidy for developers rather than a targeted tool for revitalizing neighborhoods.

The Ohio Public Interest Research Group released the report last week.

While voters in the Woodmore district focus on a bond issue that would leverage state funding for a new elementary school building, members of booster groups and Communities Achieving Goals for Extracurricular met recently with Craig Stough, an architect retained by the school board, to discuss plans for a new auditorium at the high school.

The proposed auditorium would be constructed if voters next month approve a 6.95-mill bond issue for the elementary school.

The Lake Township Ageless Wonders will get together at the Lake Township Hall for a potluck lunch Oct. 13.

The noon gathering will be a “homecoming” of sorts for the group, comprised of seniors from the Lake Township and surrounding area.

Northwood Mayor Mark Stoner said he will make a recommendation to the Safety Committee later this month on his proposed Advanced Life Support (ALS) system in the volunteer fire department.

Stoner had proposed the plan in June, but some on council balked, saying it was too expensive to implement. The plan would guarantee that a paramedic would respond to ALS calls. Currently, there is no such guarantee.
