Many parents attending a school board meeting last Tuesday were critical of the board’s approval of pay hikes for 12 administrators in the Oregon City Schools District.

The board had approved raises for 12 administrators at an August 16 meeting. Superintendent Mike Zalar received the biggest raise, from $116,965 to $130,221.

Humane Ohio, a federally licensed non-profit organization, has announced that it will begin offering free spaying and neutering of feral and owned cats in East Toledo.

According to Jill Borkowski, marketing manager for Humane Ohio, the organization began offering to fix what the agency calls “free roaming” cats in the 43609 zip code, which encompasses Toledo’s old south end, in April 2010.

The Press asked Councilman Dave Gallaher and Mayor Mark Stoner, who are running for Northwood mayor, questions to give voters a better understanding on where they stood on the issues facing the city. Here is what they had to say:

What is the biggest issue facing Northwood, and how would you address it as mayor?

While voters in the Woodmore district focus on a bond issue that would leverage state funding for a new elementary school building, members of booster groups and Communities Achieving Goals for Extracurricular met recently with Craig Stough, an architect retained by the school board, to discuss plans for a new auditorium at the high school.

The proposed auditorium would be constructed if voters next month approve a 6.95-mill bond issue for the elementary school.

District 3 incumbent councilman Mike Craig says the difference between he and challenger Shaun Enright is that he is pro-business.

Enright says he is all about neighborhoods.

“I have a different view than Mike on what’s needed for East Toledo. Our plan isn’t just something we pulled out of our pocket. I really feel our approach is the right approach. My plans are legit — they are well thought out,” Enright said.
