Tuesday will mark the first day of a new chapter in East Toledo — the opening of the 290,000 square foot Hollywood Casino Toledo on the banks of the Maumee River.
The land-based $200 million casino is on a 44-acre site off the Miami Street exit just west of I-75 and five minutes from downtown Toledo. The doors will open to the public at 2 p.m., and police expect heavy traffic on Interstate 75 near the Miami Street exit.
The Oregon Police Department received significantly less grant money from the Ohio Attorney General’s 2012-2013 Drug Use Prevention Grant this year than in previous years.
This year, the department received a paltry $5,162.66.
The Oregon City Schools District will hold a public forum on Thursday, May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Clay High School Auditorium to get feedback from the community on the results of a community survey that was conducted last year.
The survey results showed that there is “a cloud of distrust and negativity,” between the public and the school system. A significant percentage of survey respondents expressed concerns about the district and how it is being run.
As the Genoa Future Farmers of America Farmer’s Market opened for business Tuesday, vendor Aliza Greenberg of Toledo expressed confidence.
“It will grow. It will,” she said as she spread a selection of fine, homemade jewelry across a table fronting Main Street at the Genoa Town Hall. A cool breeze blew across the lawn welcomed by sunshine and mild spring temperatures in the high 60s.
FirstEnergy rate plan questioned
A public hearing – one of three planned in the state – will be held June 7 in Toledo, offering consumers the chance to offer their input.
