Oregon City Council recently approved an ordinance that retains the services of Sudsina & Associates, LLC as financial advisor to the city for $25,000 in connection with the issuance and sale of bonds.

“I think it’s good work what this consultant has done for us, basically saving us money on long-term interest rates,” said Councilman James Seaman.

Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School is expected to have its biggest incoming freshman class in five years next fall.

Last year’s prospective freshmen were at about 60 students. Stritch has received over 90 applications for the 2012-13 year. While the school caps its classes at 80, Kevin Parkins, vice president of advancement, says the school will take more if a student’s application looks good.

The 2012 Biggest Week in American Birding Festival is almost here.

The third annual event, which was hosted by the Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO) near Oak Harbor last year, has moved its headquarters to the Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center for this year’s May 4-13 event.

The Oregon Recreation and Parks Committee will host a public hearing on Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. in council chambers, 5330 Seaman Road, to gauge whether there is public support for the construction of a multi-use recreation/community facility.

“We’re looking for public input on the potential for moving forward with a new recreation design and get some indoor facilities,” said Council President Tom Susor.

The Oregon school board is focusing on making significant changes in the district’s core curriculum that are expected to be implemented within the next few years.

“This is going to apply to all of our students within the context of our school districts,” Diane Gadus, vice president of the school board, said at a special meeting on March 5. “This is a major overhaul of our educational system here in Oregon City Schools. In essence, it’s going to change the context of education as you and I had experienced when we were back in elementary, middle school and high school. So it’s going to look nothing like we’ve experienced.”
