The Oregon school board on Tuesday approved an agreement with InfoSnap to provide online student registration to parents.

Currently, parents register at the schools.

“It’s hectic,” said Board President P.J. Kapfhammer. “It takes each school days to process and try and get it done. It’s a joke, really. We spend thousands of dollars on paper and postage and processing. It’s almost impossible to track costs because it’s so diversified. This will have a streamline effect and will save the district money.”

Oregon City Council at a meeting earlier this month established the city as an Energy Special Improvement District (ESID).

In June, 2010, the Ohio Legislature passed a bill that allows for the establishment of ESIDs. Property owners within the district can pay for energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements on their properties by way of special assessments. The process is voluntary. Property owners are not required to participate.

Those interested in adopting cats, kittens, dogs and puppies can do so at the reduced rate of $5 on Fridays and $10 on Tuesdays in September and October at the Toledo Area Humane Society.

The non-profit shelter has promoted the reduced rates at different periods this summer with great success.

A planned investment next year in the dispatching system operated by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department was a factor in the county commissioners’ decision to join in discussions with entities in the northern part of the county on forming a regional emergency dispatching format.

The commissioners invited representatives of municipalities and townships throughout the county to their Aug. 30 meeting to discuss the pros and cons of a county-wide dispatching system.

A hearing has been extended for a proposed ditch project in central Ottawa County to give more affected property owners time to comment.

The Ottawa County commissioners along with county engineer David Brunkhorst held a hearing regarding the Dehring/Benton-Carroll Ditch project Aug. 28 at the county courthouse.
