The Allen Township Board of Trustees will meet in a special session July 10 at 6 p.m. to discuss the proposed development and use of Allen Park.

Board members will accept comments from the public during the special meeting, which will be held at the township office, 21030 W. Toledo Street, Williston.

Getting by in today’s tough economy takes some financial savvy.

Unfortunately, many students aren’t schooled in good budget skills and quickly accumulate financial problems early in their adult life. Credit card bills, car payments, house loans, overdue utility bills -  all add up to an overwhelming situation that leaves many feeling helpless.

The purchase of nearly $130,000 worth of radios and other communication equipment for Lake Township’s police, fire, and emergency medical service departments has been approved by the township board of trustees.

The trustees recently authorized the purchase after hearing a report by Mark Hummer, township police chief and administrator, who said the township’s emergency communication system has been under study for about two years – with the focus on participating in a regional system encompassing agencies in several other communities.

Garage sale season is in full swing, ushering in a new headache for Genoa officials.

Illegal garage sale signs are posted on public trees, lawns, utility poles, even the town hall lawn.

Village council on Monday discussed the municipal code that only allows garage sale signs to be posted on private property. And if the signs are not on your land, you have to have the property owner’s permission, said Village Administrator Kevin Gladden, who doubles as the zoning inspector. Those vendor signs for roofing and other services littering the boulevards are also illegal.

For many parents of children with disabilities, seeing their child participate in team sports like baseball may be a distant and forgotten dream. For others, providing the opportunity to kids with disabilities to experience the joy and camaraderie of baseball is just another day in the park.
