Northwood City Council at a meeting last week approved a proposal recommended by Mayor Mark Stoner, Fire Chief Joel Whitmore, and Administrator Dennis Recker that will provide full-time Basic Life Support (BLS) for residents.
“This plan will give the city the biggest bang for the buck,” said Whitmore at a Nov. 10 committee of the whole meeting, where it was discussed by council. “It will provide the best patient care to the citizens.”
Bob Marquette, chairman of the Oregon Health and Welfare Committee, is gearing up for another year of providing Christmas goods for those in need.
The Committee organizes the program for residents in Oregon, Harbor View, Jerusalem Township, and Curtice.
“Every year, we’re back,” Marquette said at an Oregon council meeting on Nov. 21.

And the village is joining forces with others to keep the state from trying to centralize collections.
The city of Northwood plans to hire a patrol officer next year to beef up the police department staff.
The cost of providing an extra officer is included in the city’s 2012 budget.
Police Chief Tom Cairl had requested bringing back a laid off patrol officer, which will increase the number of patrol officers on the road to 14.
