For many parents of children with disabilities, seeing their child participate in team sports like baseball may be a distant and forgotten dream. For others, providing the opportunity to kids with disabilities to experience the joy and camaraderie of baseball is just another day in the park.

Pam Baldwin, of Oregon, knows all too well what baseball and being a part of team has meant for her son Zach.

The Ottawa County Commissioners would forgive the balance of an outstanding loan to the county agricultural society - the organization that conducts the annual county fair - if the fair’s board of directors implements stronger fiscal management and oversight practices.

But the commissioners say in a June 14 letter to the agricultural society that they are limited by state law in how they can let the fairgrounds be used as loan collateral, which the fair board had requested at an earlier meeting with the commissioners.

Residents of Genoa now have to register their swimming pools with the village and provide adequate fencing around them.

The updated zoning codes regarding pools – covering in-ground as well as large inflatable pools - went into effect last week, according to Village Administrator Kevin Gladden.

The $11.2 million Wales Road overpass project, after years of delays, is finally underway.

The construction contract had been awarded to E.S. Wagner Company earlier this year.

The project entails the construction of two overpasses over the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks on Wales Road that would effectively eliminate three railroad crossings on Drouillard and Wales roads. As part of the project, Wales and Drouillard will be realigned south of their current locations.

The city of Northwood received 40 resumes from people interested in the administrator position, which has been vacant since former Administrator Dennis Recker resigned last month.

The city set a deadline of June 15 to accept resumes for the post.

“Most of the resumes are from the area,” Mayor Mark Stoner told The Press on Wednesday. He has not gone through all of the resumes, he added.
