Advocates are urging state leaders to act on legislation which would help protect gay students from bullying in Ohio's schools.

House Bill 208 would add sexual orientation, gender identity and other enumerated protections to Ohio's anti-bullying law.

Ed Mullen, executive director of Equality Ohio, says a recent videotaped attack of a gay Chillicothe teen in a classroom shows that these incidents are becoming more common.

Woodmore-CAGE (Communities Achieving Goals for Extracurricular) unveiled a memorial wall on Friday, Oct. 28 to honor Gary Zajac and the CAGE Kick-Off Club members. The memorial is located in the new stadium entrance building at the high school.

This memorial was donated by Fremont Federal Credit Union and dedicates the new entry building to Zajac, who passed away in May of this past year.

As soon as the ink was dry on a bill he recently introduced, State Representative Rex Damschroder had to explain it would apply to all public employees, including those elected to office.

Rep. Damschroder (R –Fremont) said he filed HB 388 to end the practice known as “double dipping” in which public employees are permitted to receive their pension benefits while continuing to work in a public sector position.

Environmental groups say more must be done to ensure that Ohio does not become the next "frontier of fracking." Horizontal hydraulic fracturing, the drilling method commonly known as "fracking," involves injecting millions of gallons of water and chemicals into deep underground wells to break up rock and release natural gas.

While supporters say it provides a substantial source of energy, some of the chemicals are toxic and the process is hazardous to the environment, says Matt Trokan, water conservation coordinator for the Sierra Club Ohio Chapter.
