Smoke and fire along Tracy Road in Lake Township the evening of Sept. 18 won’t necessarily mean there has been an accident.

The Wood County Local Emergency Planning Committee will hold a full-scale training exercise on Univar USA property from 6-9 p.m.

Grant proposals for using dredged material from Lake Erie will be discussed by the Ohio Lake Erie Commission at its quarterly meeting Sept. 18 in Port Clinton.

The meeting will be held at Camp Perry, Building 600, 1000 Lawrence Rd. and will start at 10 a.m.

The commission’s Dredge Research and Innovation in Farming Team, which was established by state statute to advise the commission of benefits and effectiveness of applying dredged material to agricultural land, has been reviewing various proposals.

A meeting set for Sept. 11 of county commissioners from Wood, Ottawa and Sandusky counties to discuss the Toussaint Creek improvement project was postponed.

Mike Libben, program administrator of the Ottawa County Soil and Water District, said it was to be the final meeting of the joint county board to approve final assessments for the project but the board decided more time is needed.

Oregon water customers may notice improvements now that the city has completed its $15 million Harmful Algal Bloom infrastructure project, which will prevent toxins from getting into the water supply.

“Everything is pretty much done,” Public Service Director Paul Roman told The Press last week. “I think things worked out great. We’re in pretty good shape. We’re very well prepared for anything now.”

The ozone treatment of water promises to be very effective in treating microcystin, the toxic algae that caused a two-day tap water ban in Toledo in 2014. Ozone treatment will also improve disinfection and treatment of other organics, as well as lower disinfection byproducts from chlorination, which will have the added benefit of improving the taste of drinking water.

Oregon council on Monday will vote on a resolution to install sanitary sewers, including restoration and resurfacing, for a segment of South Norden Road.

The portion of South Norden Road that will receive the improvements extends from the centerline of Seaman Road southerly for a distance of about 1,213 feet to Wolf Creek.
