The Woodmore Board of Education is seeking applications for the position of interim superintendent.

Linda Bringman, who’s been superintendent since 2012, announced her retirement last week, effective July 1.

The deadline for candidates to apply is July 15.

Letters of interest, a resume, a copy of a current superintendent’s license, and references should be sent to or to: Woodmore Local School District, 349 Rice Street, Elmore, O., 43416, P.O. Box 701, to the attention of Joe Liszak, Board President.

If the current pace continues, the Lake Township Fire Department will respond to 1,200-1,300 emergency calls in 2016 and surpass last year’s runs by more than 100.

Fire Chief Bruce Moritz said last week he’s begun staffing the departments’ two stations with paid personnel between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to help meet the growing run volume.

“It needs to be filled,” he said Tuesday after the meeting of the township trustees. Two people will be working the shift and rotate every other day between the Walbridge and Millbury stations.

Walbridge Mayor Ed Kolanko plans to present photos and other data he’s compiled on Dry and Cedar creeks to village council’s streets committee later this month as the village addresses flooding problems.

During their June 8 meeting, committee members noted that the creeks haven’t been cleared of debris in decades and a combination of development and restricted flow may result in flooding.

“Storm sewers are only as effective as the creeks into which they flow,” minutes of the committee’s meeting say.

Yard signs and T-shirts with an inspirational message that mentions Christ are a common site in the Genoa area as residents express support for the message and for a high school principal who had the message on a sign hanging on her office wall before being asked to take it down.

Residents have purchased about 600 T-shirts and about 200 yard signs bearing the message: “Be Kind, Speak Truth, Love Others, Show Grace, Work Hard, Be Grateful, Follow Christ,” according to Angela Bradfield, a 1995 graduate of Genoa High School and an organizer of the effort.

For Carolyn and Michael Kobasher, Sunday, June 12, seemed like the perfect evening to spend at their Lakeway Drive home.

Carolyn was relaxing with her dog Macy, an 8-year-old black Labrador Retriever, by her side. She was enjoying the lake and quilting. That is when everything went terribly wrong.

“We relocated here in December from our hometown thinking that we were moving to a quiet, relaxing community,” Carolyn said. “I never could have imagined that my first day sitting out by the water with my quilting frame would have turned to this tragedy.”
